In a press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed support for Annan’s plan in Syria, Sabah daily newspaper reports. He noted that the Syran regime continued to carry out bloodsheds, and stressed that Syrian tanks had to be pulled back to the barracks.
Erdoğan noted that the Greek Cypriots were set to undertake rotating EU term presidency on July 1. “We will give a six-month break when the Greek Cypriot EU term presidency starts,” Erdoğan noted. He stressed that it was not possible for Turkey to sit on the table for discussion with a country it doesn’t recognize.
Touching upon the visit of Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani to Turkey, Erdoğan said that Iraq would be the most important issue on the agenda. Syria, terror and PKK also will be taken up, he added.
Sabah reports that Katainen praised Turkey and Erdoğan at the press conference. He stressed that Turkey was a superpower in foreign politics, and applauded Turkey for the swift progress in modernization.
