President focuses on Armenian-Turkish current reconciliation path

The initiative on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations from the outset had two development paths, Armenian President and chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) said.
As Serzh Sargsyan said at the ۱۳th congress of RPA, the initiative didn’t develop in the way desirable for Armenia and the international community as the Armenian-Turkish border still remains closed.

He further cited several reasons proving the importance of the second path of development.

“First, as recent developments have clearly shown, it has fostered the Armenian Genocide recognition campaign. Second, the entire world came to see that the only obstacle for the establishment of the relations between Armenia and Turkey rests with Ankara and another capital, but in no way with Yerevan. And third, Turkey was forced into signing an international document, which rules out any precondition for the establishment of the relations,” RPA leader said.

According to him, the example comes as a proof that Armenia’s foreign policy course has been remarkably principled and calculated.

“We will continue to adhere to the course. We will further fulfill our alliance commitments and international obligations, using each opportunity to advance our national goals through international engagement,” the President concluded.
