“Effective battle against terrorism and extremism comes through the unity of Islamic countries,” Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian said, stressing that Tehran and Ankara have outstanding roles in this process.
He made the comments at a meeting with Mehmet Görmez, president of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the official religious institution of Turkey.
The Iranian ambassador further deplored a recent spate of terrorist attacks in Turkey, Iraq and Syria, saying Iran seriously cares about the region’s security, especially that of Turkey.
For his part, the Turkish official said concerted action and cooperation will help establish regional peace and stability and find a way out of the crises that have plagued the Middle East and the Islamic world.
Back on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also called for cooperation with Iran in the fight against terrorism, saying Ankara favors enhancement of relations with Tehran.
“Through mutual cooperation, we can eradicate terrorism,” Erdogan said in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.
