Azerbaijani delegation headed by Defence Minister, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev, met with Iran's Defence Minister Ahmed Wahidi in Tehran, Iranian Defense Ministry's official website said on Monday.
The sides discussed at the meeting issues of military-technical cooperation and regional security.
Iran's Defence Minister Ahmed Wahidi noted wide potential for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran and said that thanks to the will and determination of the leaders of the two countries enemies will not manage to damage relations between the two countries.
"Iran is ready for military equipment and strengthening of the Azerbaijani army. We understand the security of Azerbaijan as the security of Iran. Strong Iran is strong Azerbaijan and strong Azerbaijan is strong Iran," said Wahidi.
Azerbaijani Defence Minister Safar Abiyev expressed at the meeting his satisfaction over the visit to Iran and said that some forces are trying to spoil relations between the two countries, but they should not give enemies such opportunity.
Azerbaijan is faithful to good-neighborliness policy, Abiyev said and stressed that Azerbaijan wants peace, stability and security in the region.
Azerbaijan sees in the expansion of military cooperation between the two countries an opportunity to ensure peace and security in the region, he said.
Visit of Defence Minister Safar Abiyev to Iran began on Monday. During the two-day visit Abiyev will meet with other Iranian officials.
