This year, Uzbekistan plans to increase the exports of fruit and vegetables 1.55-fold as compared to the year 2016. According to the recent statement of “Uzagroeksport,” the physical volume of exports of fruits and vegetables is projected to amount to about 1.27 million tons in 2017. As of today, “Uzagroeksport” has firm contracts that fully provide for exporting the volume of products envisaged for shipment during 2017.
According to the company, in 2016 the exports of fruit and vegetables from Uzbekistan increased by 38.3 percent in comparison with 2015, reaching 818,500 tons. According to estimates of experts, about 60 percent of the total exports account for delivering to the Russian Federation.
“Uzagroeksport” was created in the structure of the “Uzpischepromholding” national holding in 2016; it specializes in centralized exports of various kinds of fruits and vegetables. As reported previously, Russia and Uzbekistan will jointly create a so-called “green corridor” for the exports of processed and fresh produce to the Russian Federation. In particular, the “green corridor” provides for a simplified procedure of phyto-sanitary and customs control for fruits and vegetables delivered to Russia from Uzbekistan.
During the November 2016 Tashkent-based international fair of fruits and vegetables, “Uzagroeksportom” was awarded a number of contracts with Russian retailers “Agro-Line” and “X5 Retail Group” for the supply of fruit and vegetable products. The total value of these contracts reached $117 million. The total worthiness of all the contracts signed in the framework of the fair exceeded one billion dollars.
In addition, in 2016, Uzbek companies established six trading houses in Russia, jointly with their Russian partners. They will specialize in the sale of fruit and vegetables, bypassing intermediary structures.
