The Chinese Railway Corporation “Utszyuy” will be engaged in the rehabilitation of priority sections of the road network in Sughd Province of Tajikistan. According to the Tajik Ministry of Transport, the corporation has won the tender to select a contractor for implementation of the second phase of the Program on improvement of traffic routes in the Central Asian region, in Sughd Province. In addition to the said corporation, the tender was participated by seven other Chinese companies.
According to the Ministry of Transport, Dohva Engineering Co., Ltd (South Korea), a subsidiary of “Inikos Development Consulting,” will provide consulting services in the field of supervision of construction of road sections in Sughd Province. Along with this company, the corresponding competition was participated by firms from countries such as Germany, Australia, Lebanon, Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
Worth recalling, last year the World Bank allocated $45 million for implementation of the second stage of the program for improvement of roads in the Central Asian region. The program will be completed in Tajikistan in 2020.
The said second stage is actually a part of the second phase of the large-scale “Project to improve roads in Central Asia.” The government of Tajikistan has allocated $9 million for implementation of this program as a co-funder.
The second phase of the road renovation program will cover about 70 km of cross-border roads in Sughd, which connect the road network of Tajikistan with the road networks of neighboring Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
As for the first phase, it provided for renovation of cross-border roads in Batken Province of Kyrgyzstan, on the border with Tajikistan.
