Turkmenistan increased natural gas exports to Azerbaijan almost sixfold
Turkmenistan delivered 298 million cubic meters of “blue fuel” to Azerbaijan in 2016, and 1.761 billion cubic meters in 2017, Reuters reports referring to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). Thus, the export of Turkmen gas to its neighbor across the Caspian increased by 5.9 times.
Earlier, representatives of the fuel and energy complex of Azerbaijan pointed out that such an energy import is necessary to speed up the development of its own oil fields, resale, and increase the reserve underground deposits of “blue fuel”. At the same time, the domestic needs of natural gas are fully covered by own extraction.
Turkmen gas is supplied to Azerbaijan via Iran.
